It has been revealed that "1 Litre of Tears," a popular TV drama that was broadcast in 2005, will be made into a movie starring Ryo Nishikido and released in 2027.
The original work is a non-fiction book called "1 Litre of Tears: The Diary of Aya, a Girl Fighting an Incurable Illness" (Gentosha Bunko), which is a collection of diaries written by Aya Kido, who was diagnosed with an incurable disease called spinocerebellar degeneration at the age of 15 and died at the young age of 25, until she could no longer use her hands during her battle with the disease, and "Life's Hurdle: 1 Litre of Tears: A Mother's Diary" (Gentosha Bunko), a memoir written by her mother, Shioka Kido, about the days she spent with her daughter. A film version starring Mae Onishi was released in 2005.
The TV drama version, starring Erika Sawajiri, aired on Fuji TV in 2005. Sawajiri played Aya, while Nishikido played Aso Haruto, who watches over her, and the series gained popularity. The insert songs "Getsuku" and "Powder Snow" by Remioromen also became hits.
In this film, Nishikido will once again play the role of Haruto, and the theme songs will be "Getsuku" and "Powder Snow" by Remioromen. The trailer that was released begins with Haruto (Nishikido) saying, "I wonder if he'd be happy to know that there are still people reading my work even after 15 years," and cuts to Haruto in the present, with Remioromen's "Getsuku" playing.

This work can be considered one of my starting points. I am extremely honored to have been given the opportunity to take on the same role again after so many years have passed since then.

For us, Remioromen, the work "1 Litre of Tears" has an indescribable significance.
The most notable aspect for the band was that the drama gave us a great opportunity to learn about our songs "Konayuki" and "Getsuku," as well as our existence.
However, this work is based on Aya Kido's non-fiction book, and I still believe that the soul of the work lies in her daily life, her battle with illness, and her very way of life.
When I heard from the producer about the film adaptation, I felt his passion to create and deliver a work that truly values the core of the story.
With a different timeline and presentation from the original novel and the drama, we hope that this story will be a work that gives courage to many people living in this era.
And as a way of giving back, we hope that Remioromen's music can be of help to the film.
