The event "EVANGELION: 30+; 30th ANNIVERSARY OF EVANGELION (Eva Fest)," commemorating the 30th anniversary of the popular anime series "Evangelion," opened on February 21st at Yokohama Arena (Kohoku-ku, Yokohama), and a new short anime "Evangelion Broadcast 30th Anniversary Special Performance" was unveiled.
The approximately 15-minute anime was produced for the event and was planned, scripted and supervised by Hideaki Anno, and directed by Naoyuki Asano, who was the animation director for "Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time." When the screening began, the enthusiastic audience fell silent, but when it ended, the audience, unable to contain their excitement, erupted in thunderous applause. The film will be screened again on the 22nd and 23rd.
A film concert, "BACK TO NEON GENESIS EVA FES Ver.", was also held. In addition to a performance by a full orchestra led by Sagisu Shiro, Yoko Takahashi sang "A Cruel Angel's Thesis" and "Soul's Refrain." For the double encore, Megumi Hayashibara appeared and performed "Tsubasa wo Kudasai" and "VOYAGER ~Namae no Nai Bohyo~."
The event will be divided into an exhibition area called "EVA EXTRA 30" and a stage event area called "STAGE AREA," which will express the "past" and "future" of "Evangelion." It will also feature the first collaboration between the "Evangelion" series and the traditional performing art of Kabuki, "Kabuki Symphony No. 100 Evangelion." The event will run until the 23rd.
