It has been announced that the screening period for "Super Kaguyahime!", the original anime film directed by Seigo Yamashita, the director of the first full-length feature film directed by Seigo Yamashita, who has worked on the opening videos for popular anime such as the first season of "Jujutsu Kaisen" and "Chainsaw Man," will be extended and the number of theaters showing the film will be expanded from February 27th. The film began streaming as a "Netflix movie" on January 22nd, and following strong sales, was released in theaters on February 20th. As soon as reservations opened at various theaters, screenings immediately sold out, with some theaters suddenly adding additional screenings and showing the film more than 10 times a day, creating an unprecedented situation. Initially scheduled for a one-week screening, the overwhelming response led to the film's screening period being extended and the number of theaters showing the film being expanded.
It was also announced that a music video (MV) for the ending theme, "ray Super Kaguyahime! Version," will be screened after the main film starting February 27th. The MV, which was released on YouTube in January and directed by Director Yamashita, depicts behind-the-scenes scenes and the continuation of the story in new animation. As of February 20th, the MV has been viewed over 5 million times, gaining popularity. CHAMA, the bassist for the band "BUMP OF CHICKEN," which produced the original song, also recommended "watching the MV after seeing the movie, and then watching the movie again" as a "highly recommended way to watch it" on X. In response to numerous requests on social media for people to "watch the MV along with the main film in the theater!", the MV was made a reality with the cooperation of the theater.
The eight additional theaters are T-Joy PRINCE Shinagawa (Minato Ward, Tokyo), T-Joy Emiterrace Tokorozawa (Tokorozawa City, Saitama Prefecture), Io Cinema Urawa Misono (Midori Ward, Saitama City), Cinema Sunshine Misato (Misato City, Saitama Prefecture), AEON Cinema Takasaki (Takasaki City, Gunma Prefecture), AEON Cinema Ibaraki (Ibaraki City, Osaka Prefecture), T-Joy Kitakyushu (Kokurakita Ward, Kitakyushu City), and T-Joy Kurume (Kurume City, Fukuoka Prefecture). Gifts will not be distributed to attendees at the additional theaters.
The work is a "musical anime" inspired by the classic "The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter." Aya Sakayori, a 17-year-old high school girl who leads an extremely busy life juggling part-time work and studies, meets Kaguya, who appears from inside a gaming utility pole that shines in seven colors.
Studio Colorido, known for "Penguin Highway," and Studio Chromat, led by director Yamashita, teamed up to produce the anime. Music was provided by a number of talented vocaloid producers, including ryo from "supercell," kz from "livetune," 40mP, HoneyWorks, Aqu3ra, and yuigot.
