It has been announced that the total number of copies of Gokurakugai, a manga by Yuto Sano currently being serialized in Jump SQ. (Shueisha), has surpassed 1.4 million. The latest volume, volume 6, was released on February 4th, bringing the total number of copies sold to over 1.4 million. The series began serialization in Jump SQ. in July 2022 and has been gaining popularity, garnering attention for its excellent drawing skills and winning 7th place in the comics category of the Next Manga Awards 2025. The series has also gained many fans overseas, with over 800,000 copies in circulation overseas.
To commemorate the release of the latest volume 6, outdoor advertisements have appeared in Shibuya and Shinjuku, Tokyo. In reference to the story, which depicts characters who build family-like relationships despite not being related by blood, posters featuring characters with the tagline "We want to call that bond family" have been put up at SHIBUYA WILD POSTING inside the New South Exit ticket gates of JR Shinjuku Station. There are six posters in total: the protagonists Alma and Tao; Ney, Yoki and Dara, members of the anti-disaster organization "Hebiana"; and Utsuro, the Night of Maga, a monster created from the corpses of humans and animals. Each poster expresses their own view of family.
"Gokurakugai" is set in Gokurakugai, a downtown area where vibrant activity and deep darkness intersect, and depicts the exploits of Tao and Alma, who run a "troubleshooting business."
