The band Godiego, celebrating their 50th anniversary this year, will appear on NHK's music program "SONGS" (General Channel) airing on May 14th at 10 PM. This will be Godiego's first appearance on "SONGS" in 19 years. In the studio, they will perform their hit song "Galaxy Express 999" and a medley of songs from the hit drama "Journey to the West."
Godiego debuted in 1976 with "Boku no Salad Girl." Since then, after several hiatuses, they declared a "permanent comeback" in 2006, and this year marks their 50th anniversary.
The program looks back on 50 years of Godiego's history through valuable archival footage and testimony from Char, who made his record debut in the same year. Furthermore, music producer Seiji Kameda, who encountered Godiego in his youth and has been captivated by their music ever since, will thoroughly analyze Godiego using "Western music" as a keyword. The program will unravel the true value of the band and how much influence they had on the music scene at the time.
JUJU, who respects Godiego, will also participate in the studio talk. The members of Godiego will share some never-before-seen anecdotes, including behind-the-scenes stories from their outdoor concert in Nepal that drew 60,000 people. In addition, an unexpected connection between the members of Godiego and Elton John will be revealed.
