In anticipation of the May 29th release of "Mononoke: The Movie - Chapter 3: Serpent God," the third and final chapter in the "Mononoke: The Movie" trilogy, a brand new theatrical film series based on the popular TV anime "Mononoke ," a pre-release trailer has been released on YouTube.
Chapter three delves into the "greatest secret" that has been hidden within the Ooku for so long. The preview begins with a tense scene in which the medicine seller shouts, "Tell me! It's the crucial thing...the true identity of the Serpent God!" as he tries to uncover the Serpent God's true identity. In response to his words, the Emperor confesses, "I too was a lie," and the consort, Sachiko, asks, "Didn't you desire a child?" and the truth that has been hidden deep within the Ooku is finally revealed. The Emperor's expression as she says "It's tainted" is a stark contrast to the expressionless demeanor that was so prominent in chapters one and two, and strongly conveys the emotions hidden within her.
The story also shows the two of them as children, indicating that Tenshi and Mizorogi Hokuto were childhood friends. They had once innocently promised each other, "This will be our secret!" But now, years later, Tenshi quietly tells them, "You, both then and now, were simply telling the truth."
In the latter half of the trailer, the medicine seller's line, "The snake god will manifest!" triggers an even more eerie and unsettling atmosphere in the footage, revealing the figure of Tenkyoku, who is deeply involved in the birth of the Ooku, and also including scenes that foreshadow a fierce battle between the medicine seller and the snake god.
"Mononoke: The Movie" is set in the Ooku (women's quarters of Edo Castle), a place swirling with the passions of women, and follows a medicine seller as he tries to uncover the true identity of the "Mononoke." The first chapter, "Karakasa," was released in July 2024, and the second chapter, "Hinezumi," was released in March 2025. The third chapter, "Hebigami," will be released on May 29th.
"Mononoke" is an anime produced by the same staff who worked on the popular episode "Bakeneko" from "Ayakashi," which aired on Fuji TV's Noitamina anime block in 2006. It aired on Noitamina in 2007. The story depicts a supernatural tale in which the medicine seller who appeared in "Bakeneko" confronts a Mononoke.
