Actor Akira Kobayashi will appear on Tetsuko Kuroyanagi's long-running talk show "Tetsuko's Room" (TV Asahi), airing on May 14th at 1 PM. Kobayashi will turn 88 in November. Celebrating his 70th anniversary in show business, he will reminisce fondly about his memories with many of the great stars of the Showa era.
In the 1960s, during Nikkatsu's golden age, Kobayashi shared popularity with Yujiro Ishihara, captivating fans with his hard-hitting action scenes filmed without stunt doubles. As a singer, he had numerous hit songs, including "I'm Appearing Under My Old Name" and "To a Passionate Heart."
In 1956, the same year Kobayashi made his screen debut, Yujiro Ishihara made a striking debut in the film "Season of the Sun." Kobayashi first saw Ishihara at the film studio, and was struck by his appearance as he stepped out of a car... He then shared some anecdotes about Ishihara's boisterous personality, with whom he later became close. In 1962, he married singer Misora Hibari. The marriage reportedly began with a magazine interview. Their marriage was short-lived, however...
