The official trailer for the latest DC Universe film, "Supergirl" (directed by Craig Gillespie, opening June 26th), was released on April 1st. The trailer opens with an appearance by Superman/Clark Kent (David Correnswett), Supergirl/Kara Zor-El's (Millie Alcock) cousin. The international version of the film's main visual was also released.
"Supergirl," which can be considered the next chapter after "Superman" (2025), will be produced by DC Studios, led by director James Gunn, just like "Superman." Gillespie, who has taken over from Gunn, is a talented director who has worked on many stories with female protagonists. The protagonist will be Supergirl/Kara Zor-El, Superman/Clark Kent's cousin.
Alcock, who plays the lead role of Supergirl/Kara Zor-El, is a 25-year-old from Sydney, Australia, born in 2000. The film also sees the return of "superdog" Krypto. Eve Ridley, who gained attention in the Netflix series "The Three-Body Problem," plays Lucy Mary Knoll, an alien girl who appears in the original comics and travels with Supergirl and Krypto. Jason Momoa, familiar to DC fans from the "Aquaman" series, also appears as the universe's most formidable bounty hunter robot.
The newly released trailer opens with Superman appearing on a monitor inside what looks like a spaceship, calling out to Kara (=Supergirl), "Just to confirm, when are you coming back? I'm worried. You haven't come back to Earth at all. Aren't you lonely?" This scene shows him showing concern for the lonely Kara.
Since losing everything in the destruction of her home planet Krypton, Kara has lived a lonely life with nowhere to go. For her, her beloved dog Krypto was her only solace, and they shared an irreplaceable, strong bond, with her thinking, "All I need is you." However, that peace is shattered in an instant. Krypto is poisoned by Clem (Matthias Schoenaerts), who suddenly appears. With only three days left, Kara, along with Lucy (Ridley Scott), who is on a journey of revenge to avenge her family, finds an antidote and throws herself into a dangerous battle...
Along with this, the overseas version of the main visual has also been released. In stark contrast to the somewhat laid-back appearance of the teaser visual, Supergirl is shown with a powerful gaze fixed forward, striking a "superhero landing." This visual raises expectations for the birth of a new hero, as it shows how Kara will transform from a "laid-back" character to a "super heroine."
Furthermore, it has been announced that various advance movie tickets will go on sale from April 24th. As a theater-exclusive bonus, they will come with a cute "Baby Crypto sticker."
