The latest theatrical film in the popular anime series " Doraemon, " based on the original work by Fujiko F. Fujio, " Doraemon 's New Nobita Adventure in the South Seas," has surpassed 3 billion yen in box office revenue in just 31 days since its release on February 27th. The number of viewers has exceeded 2.39 million. It has been a huge hit, topping the weekend box office rankings (according to Kogyo Tsushinsha) for five consecutive weeks.
To commemorate its massive success, a non-credit version of the film's opening sequence has been released on YouTube. Set to the famous song "Yume wo Kanaete Doraemon), the video brilliantly announces the start of a grand adventure unfolding underwater. It will be available for a limited time until May 31st.
The latest film is a reimagining of "Doraemon the Movie: Nobita's Great Adventure in the South Seas," originally released in 1983 and long beloved by fans, approximately 43 years later. Doraemon and his friends embark on a grand adventure in a mysterious and enigmatic underwater world.
The film is directed by Tetsuo Yajima, who has worked on storyboards and direction for the TV anime "Doraemon," as well as participating in "Nobita's New Great Adventure into the Underworld: The Seven Magic Users" (2007), "Nobita and the Steel Troops: The New Adventure: The Angels" (2011), and "Nobita's Earth Symphony" (2024). The script is written by Isao Murayama, who has worked on numerous episodes of the TV anime "Doraemon." Voice actors Shoya Chiba plays El, a soldier of the Mu Federation, the country of the underwater people, and Ryo Hirohashi plays the secret gadget, the Underwater Buggy. In addition to the regular version, the film will also be shown in 4D for the first time in the "Doraemon" movie series.
