It has been announced that rock band ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION will be performing the opening theme song "Skins" for the third and final season of "Dr. STONE SCIENCE FUTURE," the fourth and final season of the TV anime series "Dr. STONE," based on the manga serialized in "Weekly Shonen Jump" (Shueisha). It has also been announced that Seiichiro Yamashita will appear as an additional cast member, playing SAI, "the man with the strongest mathematical abilities and humanity." SAI will be a key person essential to Senku and his friends' moon landing plan. The third season will be the final chapter of the anime.
The main visual and main PV have also been released. The visual shows Senku and his friends renewing their resolve to take on an unprecedented big project: building a rocket from scratch in the Stone World. The PV shows Senku teaming up with Zeno to take on the challenge of building a lunar rocket, the most difficult craft in the history of "Dr. Stone." The opening theme song, "Skins," by ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION, was also unveiled.
ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION's Goto Masafumi commented, "Lately I've been thinking that rather than them, it's us outside the world of anime who should be the ones restarting civilization from scratch. I really hope that a bright future awaits us beyond the time when we can all go to the moon. I wrote a song for 'Dr. Stone' that we can dance to while still carrying our various worries and differences."
Yamashita, who plays SAI, said, "When I read the original work, what struck me most strongly was the preciousness of life. While tracing the history of mankind, this work is packed with inventions and discoveries that are unique to it, as well as wonderful human drama...! Having repeatedly gone from 0 to 1, what is Senku and his friends' next goal? How will SAI and his mathematical abilities support them? Please look forward to it! And to all Dr. Stone fans, I look forward to your continued support!"
It was also announced that Yamashita will be appearing at an advance screening of the third season with a stage greeting to be held at TOHO Cinemas Hibiya (Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo) on March 21, alongside Yusuke Kobayashi, who plays Ishigami Senku, and Ryota Suzuki Ryota, who plays Nanami Ryusui.
In the third season, Senku and Zeno team up to confront Whyman, putting the revival of all humanity at stake, and the moon landing plan begins. A new character, SAI, appears, who is said to be "the man with the strongest mathematical ability in humanity." The series will air on TOKYO MX and other channels from 10 PM on April 2nd.
"Dr. Stone" is written by Inagaki Riichiro (Eyeshield 21) and illustrated by Boichi (San-Ken Rock and ORIGIN). It was serialized in "Weekly Shonen Jump" from March 2017 to March 2022. Thousands of years have passed since all of humanity was instantly turned to stone by a mysterious phenomenon. Senku Ishigami, a boy with a superhuman intellect and a natural scientist, awakens and, in a desperate situation, resolves to search for his allies and take back the world. Senku uses science to try to build a civilization from scratch. The comics have sold over 19 million copies in total.
The first season of the TV anime aired from July to December 2019, the second from January to March 2021, the TV special "Dr. Stone Ryusui" in July 2022, and the first cour of the third season aired from April to June 2023 and the second cour from October to December of the same year. The final season will be split into three cours, with the first cour airing from January to March 2025 and the second cour airing from July to September of the same year.
