A stage greeting for the revival screening of the animated film "The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya," based on the popular light novel series "The Haruhi Suzumiya" by Nagaru Tanigawa, published by Kadokawa Sneaker Bunko (KADOKAWA), was held at Shinjuku Wald 9 (Shinjuku Ward, Tokyo) on February 7th, with the "SOS Brigade" consisting of Hirano Aya as Haruhi Suzumiya, Sugita Tomokazu as Kyon, Chihara Minori as Nagato Yuki, Goto Yumiko as Asahina Mikuru, and Ono Daisuke as Koizumi Itsuki. The revival screening was realized as part of a project to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the TV anime broadcast of the series. The voice actors shared their thoughts on the 20th anniversary.
In a segment talking about her favorite scenes from "The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya," Goto mentioned "the scene where the adult version of Mikuru talks to Kyon," recalling, "There are lines from the adult Mikuru like, 'Once it's over, it goes by in the blink of an eye,' and 'One day you too will look back on this time with nostalgia.' When I read the script and was acting, I thought that I would be in the same situation." However, she said, "Even now, 20 years later, I'm still caught up in 'Haruhi' every now and then, and it's a happy cry that I don't look back on it with nostalgia. I don't feel the way Mikuru felt at the time."
In response, Ono said, "Goto-san, you're looking towards the future. Now is the time when you feel like you want to act more," to which Goto revealed his feelings, saying, "I feel like I'm more attached to the character now."
"The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya" is a science fiction comedy about a high school girl named Haruhi Suzumiya who loves aliens, people from the future, psychics, and paranormal phenomena, and her friends, an ordinary high school boy named Kyon, who find themselves caught up in a series of strange events... The TV anime was broadcast in 2006 and 2009. The theatrical anime "The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya" was released in 2010.
